OK. Those entering are diminishing. Not sure if I am offering crummy coins or not (maybe, possibly, likely). I did mention they were coming completely at random from my bag. So, this week I decided to pick specifically (yea, maybe I am compromising myself, but heck, I think people should appreciate, right?). A sestertius, a denarius, a shattered Chinese Zhou Dynasty bronze cowrie (maybe one can glue it together, it is a project). Finally, an ounce of copper. Copper? Yea, well, I bought something on Ebay and they guy just sent it to me. No interest for me, but maybe someone else will or pass it on to someone else. To go over the rules again as some have wondered week to week: This contest is open to anyone, anywhere in the world. You pay nothing, I will handle postage. Just reply to the conversation saying you are interested, I will enter you. I will pick the winner at random on Friday (or as in this week maybe on Monday!). What are my motivations? Just to promote interest in ancient coins and history. None of these coins are blockbuster, but they all have history. I wont attribute them for you. There are ample resources on the net for you to figure them out (though this week has one fully attributed). My wife asked me if I was going to write them off on taxes. Nope. I lose enough money as it is as a dealer. Any more and the IRS would surely audit me!
I'm not entering but do have a question: I have not seen AVDP written with all those periods. It is the abbreviation for avoirdupois but the maker of the round seems to have considered it an acronym. I assume the round was not English as a primary language??? Is this now standard?
Ken, I don't think that its that you're giving crummy coins. What would that matter it's a good gesture you're doing. I think some are just giving the chance for others. Last weeks offer just wasn't in my wheelhouse & didn't know of anyone who personally would. This week while ifI won only one of those I would keep the others would go to people I know would appreciate them. You are doing a good thing, it doesn"t matter what you are offering. You're heart is in the right place & that's what matters.
Ooh! A Hadrian sestertius? Count ME in! Who cares if it's a smoothie, and that I already own one in my tiny six-coin selection of ancients! I hereby pledge another giveaway of my own, should I win that. (In fact, I might enjoy it for a little while and then pass it on in a future giveaway, myself, if that doesn't sound tacky.) Neat stuff! Thank you for the opportunity. Verily, thou art a prince among dealers, and thy stock has risen with me though I don't think I have as yet had the pleasure of doing business with you. Seen you on VCoins, though.
Ken, You're doing an incredibly generous thing with these giveaways and the coins are not crummy!! Thank you, they are very much appreciated! I'll throw my name in the hat. You rock! Erin
Everything does have its price with me. I don't think an even swap of yours for mine is quite in order... this time. But on a future date, with different coins... who knows. If I win this, I will fondle the coins lovingly for a little while and then use 'em to spice up my next giveaway in the upcoming "LordM's Epic Treasure Hunting Game", among other things. But others are more deserving, so...
