Duchy of Milan Gold Ducat of Filippo Maria Visconti (minted in Milan sometime between 1412 and 1447):
Purchased raw several months ago. Got them graded by PCGS in just ten days. MS62 for the top, MS63 for the bottom. Both are piedfort, i.e. double weight. /rant I'll never use NGC again. I still have two similar coins sitting with NGC since early August. They blame it on the hurricanes, but there's no way that causes your grading to take three months... just terrible service.
Beautiful coins! You have my sympathy re NGC I hand delivered 25 world coins and six Morgan dollars to them from the UK on 16th July at the FUN convention hoping to shave a couple of weeks off the service they were quoting at the time. What a joke! It is now November 19th and despite a couple of changes in submission status back and forth, I am still waiting. I have lived longer than I will live and no way will I submit coins again unless there is a radical improvement in service. OK maybe they are out of their depth with early English hammered coins but run of the mill Morgan dollars? I guess once they have their money up front including shipping, there is no imperative to deliver. Apathy rules, so what.....
This was on my wish list for awhile and I happened to do an eBay search when I was bored and saw this one in an auction. I figured it would get really high as it had 27 people watching it, but I put in a rather low bid and won it for half of what I was expecting to have to pay. Kind of makes me wonder if there's something wrong about it but it seems OK to me. It has a small gouge on one side but I can live with it. 1888 H Mombasa 1 rupee.
Since I completed a few sets this year it's time to branch out and expand my horizons. This "Wildman" is just the type of diversion I seek. AU-58, from my LCS.
I believe the big problem is with world coins. I've submitted over the last three years and the turnaround for world coins has creeped up, especially for economy submissions! I truly believe they need to hire more world graders, especially because they have opened several world offices. The only U.S. submission I have sent was graded, and returned to me within a month with economy service. I'm also seeing quite a few new world issues in PCGS holders lately, so I think NGC needs to certainly address their turnaround times.
I'm still lacking a "large" Wildman. With so many options out there, I want to be picky! Your's is really nicely struck, lots of facial details!
