OK, I thought I would do one of these. I've been working on my coin photography lately trying to get better. I honestly think the obverse photo on this one is slightly fuzzy but I think it will work for this. If not, I can try and take a better one. Anyway, this is a 1964-D Washington Quarter which is graded by PCGS. I personally find the Washington Quarter about as hard a coin to grade as there is. Please note, the hairlines visible on the obverse are scratches on the slab and not on the coin. What do you think it is graded?
Yea, the condition of the coin is what gave it away Imo. My 1st thought: who would slab THAT coin?? Then I noticed the TF etc. And knew right away... I'm at AU50
That was sorta the response I was expecting. At first glance it seems like a dirt common coin worth only spot. I was curious to see how long it took for someone to notice why it is special. Didn't take long. Haha
That's exactly what I noticed as well. Every 1964-D Washington Quarter I come across I look at the reverse for the Type-C, have yet to find one though. AU-53 Type-C reverse. Did you pick it up raw and have it graded?
No, I got it already graded. Actually, it was a gift from a very kind member here. I have always loved the 32-98 Washington Quarter, it's my favorite modern series. Several years ago, another member was selling some nice BU type B quarters and I bought several from him. He was very nice and appreciated how much I liked the series. I was young and didn't have much money. He wanted to give me something as a nice start to a proper Washington collection...and he had an extra 64-D Type C (he had recently upgraded). So, rather than selling it, he gave it to me. It was extremely kind and as a result it is one of my favorite coins.
I have no idea. Based on my research...they supposedly used two different dies to produce them. Apparently dies meant to be used starting in 1965 were used.
