Cat grading dilemma

Hello, All. Meow just had a lucky find a few months ago. Meow posted all about recently. In short. Meow by some incredible chance, Meow got a potentially valuable half dollar off the counter of a bank at face value. And Meow did not know that one of those halves where possibly quite valuable until a member was nice enough to tell Meow. 20241120_201428[1].jpg 20241120_201438[1].jpg So Meow thinks that it would be a good idea to get it graded just to be sure of its value and to keep it protected in a nice holder. Meow gravitates to PCGS as they seem appeal the most to this Cat. The problem is that Meow only has that one coin of value to grade. So what to do? Meow is a House Cat that does not go outside often. And does not know any other Cats well anyway, forget about other Cats that collect coins. Meow did some thinking and thought that maybe some cool BU quarter strike throughs that Meow found CRH might make joining to grade a small pawful of coins worth it. Meow does not recall where in the Cat Hoard they are at the moment but they are some of finds Meow posted here in the past few years. Meow thinks one was a Rockefeller quarter with no Washingtons face. And 3-4 butterfly quarters with patterns of a piece of thread that made impressions in the obverse field. So do they even grade stuff like that? And is it worth doing? How about the Mount Rushmore quarters with a die chip in Jeffersons nose? Meow calls those Jefferson Booger Quarters.

Meow wanted to give proper credit and thanks to -jeffB for giving Meow the heads up on the potentially valuable coin. As Meow was only looking at them as cool old silver coins. Cat don't collect stuff in regard to money so it did not even occur to Meow that something like that could happen.

Any Members here every grade super modern strike through coins via PCGS? Do they attribute the error? Or just the grade?

There are different pics of it the previous thread in CRH. Meow could repost them here.

Thinking a bit more with Meow's fuzzy head, Meow thought of another thing. Meow has about a dozen W Talllgrass quarters from BU rolls. They are from rolls so they have typical damage from churning in the coin roll machine but they are not circulated for sure. Doubtful any are MS66. But they should ALL come back MS60-65. But Meow thinks they are not worth grading at those levels. Maybe one or two might be MS66 but its doubtful.

Well from what Meow was told a found doing a little pawing around. A grade of XF40 is about $700-$900 and a grade of XF45 is $1200-$1750. And a few members did say the coin did look XF. Meow thinks its somewhere in the middle. Do they even have a middle grade? XF40+ maybe?

But who knows maybe it fake. Thats why Meow wanted to grade it as it could be a really nice find if authenticated.

Meow would not know anything about that. It cost Meow fifty cents at the bank.

I hope you don't mind, but I PhotoScaped your Inage.
    20241117_152101[1]x-horz.jpg Roger & Wilber.jpg It's a nice coin, VF I would say.
For only grading 1 coin I would send it to ANACS or ICG.

What do think about the idea of also sending in Meows pawful of ultra modern stirke through errors or a few of the nice Tallgrass Ws?

Meow has just dig through the Cat Hoard and found the box of errors. There are one Marsh Billings and six Tallgrass quarters with obverse strike throughs. 20241121_013920[1].jpg 20241121_013931[1].jpg 20241121_013942[1].jpg 20241121_014003[1].jpg 20241121_014013[1].jpg 20241121_014021[1].jpg 20241121_014034[1].jpg

That's up to you, the cost of grading isn't going to add any value to the coins.
That being said I did that myself, I found a quarter in change and sent in knowing it wouldn't add value, but I liked the darn thing. 2006D ND Cud AU55 1-horz.jpg

Looks like a ruff choice to me. I bet with dogged determination one could come up with 101 ways to do it.

Congrats! That's a big time find at fifty cents!

In this grade range, the first place a buyer will look is the outline below Liberty's left breast. The mark there will stand out enough that, despite technically grading XF, the value of your coin should be attenuated a little when you go to sell.
