The 20th ASE had a production limit of 200,000. The 25th ASE had a production Limit of 100,000 I believe all of the Burnished silver eagles are worth collecting.

"...there is no prohibition against the bureau offering 2016 coins into 2017..."

So, they can sell 'em in 2017. But it doesn't mean they will.

After reading the coinworld article, I'm wondering why they're being coy about planned production numbers:

"...U.S. Mint officials are not planning to disclose how many of the Uncirculated 2016-W American Eagle silver dollars will have been struck by the U.S. Mint through Dec. 31."

As to your last sentence, possibly (probably) so. But it also gave collectors the ability to 'collect' uncirculated coins directly from the mint. Something that wasn't possible in the past. Prior, you had to go through a dealer. And the 'W' mint mark was a plus. I know that they're vastly overpriced compared to the generic ASE's but I collect them just the same. I like them. I'm a fool and a sucker.......and a collector. Years from now they may only be worth melt, but I don't care. I've had my fun. :)

Yes they will it's almost idiotic to think otherwise, there's no way the mint is going to stop selling a product that was only available for a month (in some product specific offerings less than a month) and waste the time and resources used in that products production. Take a look at the 2015 Silver proof sets and other items which are still available for sale.

But what if they sell-out in December? Very likely if they only minted 150K. Less likely at 200K. MUCH less likely at 300K+.

So, how many do they plan to produce? They're not saying! I think that means they WAY overproduced -- and will sell these well into 2017.

    But I'm just guessing.

Also, remember there's the 2016 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set -- which goes on sale Dec 14th and includes the Uncirculated ASE (+ 4 other coins). At $49.95, it looks like a better deal than the $44.95 ASE alone. But no free shipping after Dec 11th on orders of $100 or more. And delivery probably not in time for Xmas. And if you don't want the other 4 coins, why bother?

Redundancy pales me. I hate it most awful. Just buy the blasted coin, and be done with the other offerings. That is to say, unless you collect them

    Carry on folks....... :)

As a collector I'd be thrilled for sales to be cut off once 2017 rolls around but from past experience I know that they won't be and these will be sold well into 2017. I think that mintage totals will be similar to previous years for the 30th proof version maybe 1.5x and probably at least 2x the mintage totals for the 30th 'burnished' version even if the mint hasn't stated anything official yet.

    2015 Silver Eagle W Mintages
    Proof: 707,518
    Uncirculated (Burnished) Mintage: 223,879
