While sitting bored in my cubicle this afternoon I had a thought. Could panoramic mode be used to get a continuous photo of the rim of a coin? A quick google search didn't turn anything up, but my google skills are kinda limited, especially at work. Clearly I haven't really thought the whole idea through, but I could see it working. Do any of our photography people have any input?
If you use the cone shaped reflector from the head of an old flashlight it will give a 360° photo of the coins edge. It will require a little set up practice with things like height adjustment and lighting arangement. Some nice results can be obtained.
