    INDIA, Medieval (Southern Deccan). Gangas of Talakad (Western Gangas). Uncertain ruler. Circa 1080-1138. AV Gajapati Pagoda (14mm, 3.89 g). EF. Full elephant strike details. Very scarce in such condition

    I don't really collect a lot of Indian coins but couldn't resist the beautiful elephant..

    Oooh... lovely!

    Though perhaps oddly, I find myself less interested in the elephant for once, and strangely drawn to that swirling, abstract, almost Celtic-looking reverse, which is a bit unusual for me.

    Well, here's my recent purchase of an elephant on a Titus denarius---apparently a now extinct variety with the rounded ears:

    Actually, I enjoy capturing Ancient Greek-World bronzes, as they are often overlooked, sometimes much more scarce than their silver-sister coins, and still capture that historical moment in Human History. :)
