with the US Mint just releasing the 30th anniversary ASE - West Point mint,
is there any difference from that BU $44.95 version that comes in a presentation box
compared to a single or tube of 2016 ?

    Is it the rim edge?
    I don't have a 2016 to compare so I'm curious.

The 30th anniversary issue has edge lettering.

    And a W mint mark.

The W mint coins have specially prepared "burnished" planchets and are specially handled like proofs. The bullion issues that come in tubes are pounded out bullion with no special finish or special handling

Oh and the bullion ones still have a reeded edge. Only the proof and burnished ones have the edge lettering

There's apparently No Limit to the 2016 30th production ?

Was there a production limit to the 25th, 20th or 10th anniversary ASEs ?

I'm trying to determine whether I should get one or not.

Yes you should get one. There is speculation that they will be considered commemoratives since they have the edge lettering and thus go off sale at the end of December. If that happens and only a month of sales it should be the new lowest pop. Might as well get one just in case imo

So they are only selling them for 1 month ?

Definitely a "yes" in my mind.

I doubt the mint is going to stop selling them as soon as Jan 1, 2017 rolls around. Usually they will keep selling them until whatever stock that was produced is gone but they by law won't be able to mint anymore once 2016 ends.

    On the website it states

So, if they run out of stock before the end of the year they could do another run of them? But they can't make any past Dec 31st ?[/quote]

On Dec 14 or 15 they are releasing a complete 2016 dollar uncirculated set including this coin for $49.95. According to their website.

Correct by law they cannot mint 2016 coins into 2017. I would guess the mint has already produced all that will be produced at this point but they could run some more if they wanted to do so as long as it's still 2016.

I just picked up one 30th ASE
    was debating on 2
but I think I'll wait for the set to come out and get 1 or 2 of those, or maybe a 2nd 30th ASE.

I guess there wasn't a big demand for their $1 coins so they packaged them up. lol

I wish they would state how many they've minted in the first batch (and maybe last).
