Thanks for info. I agree that BofA gives out too many new coins. Here at home I have a second account with a local bank where I almost always get circulated coins. But while I was out West the only reason I hit BofA's is because they are the only national bank I have an account with. I know it depends on teller, but I'm finding more and more lately that banks will ask whether I have an account before they will make change for me. Is your experience with other banks that they tend to make change without asking if you have an account?
You're welcome. It's really hit or miss with banks that you don't have accounts with... For instance, I am near two CitiBanks.... one has no problem giving me coins, the other won't. It is the same with the smaller banks. Some will do it no problem, others won't unless you have an account... and one did it one time, but wouldn't do it a second time...
That's true, especially now. When I started collecting as a kid back in the late 1970s, it was not that hard to find S coins in circulation here in the East. They weren't as plentiful as plains for sure, but I was still able to fill up my entire first Whitman penny book (1941-1974) with pennies I pulled from circulation with the sole exception of 1955-S which I had to buy at a flea market to complete the collection. I did that in just few months back in 1979. Shortly after that I stopped collecting for many years and just got back into it again about a year ago. One thing I noticed this time around is that it's so much harder to find S coins than it was 35 years ago. My theory is that pennies just don't circulate as much as they used to. Between increased used of credit cards, debit cards and "rounding" policies where businesses just don't bother dealing with cents anymore, I think pennies just don't get the circulation they used to 35 years ago, and the less circulation that takes place the less chance any individual cent has of making it all the way across the country over some period of time.
Nothing much new to report here... have found some Buffalo hole fillers, but no Lincolns or Jeffersons (only missing the 50-D ICYMI) to add to the main summary. Also STILL in search of that 2009-P North Mariana Islands coin, though I must admit that I have greatly curtailed my quarter searching the past few months.
Here is my current book that I have fill alot of holes in. It is the 1909 to 1940 wheat cent book. All from this year.
WOW! You've found a 13-S, 14-S, 23-S, 24-S, 32, 33, and 33-D in 2016? That's impressive! How many cents have you gone through this year?
Yes all from this year. Alot of the hole fillers came from a 5 roll cwr collection that was dumped at my bank which consisted of around 160 wheats. This screen shot is of the original post I did a while back on the find. A 1958 d uncirculated condition was also on that list. This year I have seached through roughly 400,000 cents.
BTW, knocked off the 1912 Lincoln from my 1909-1929 book over last weekend... and also a found a very nice MS 54-S.
I normally wouldn't publish a picture the most common date pre-1940 wheat cent of all on here, however it eluded me for NINE months until today... with this find, I now am only missing 8 cents from my 1934-1958 "short set" from circulation: 1935-D, 1935-S, 1936-D, 1937-D, 1938-D, 1939-D, 1940-D, and 1943-D. It becomes the 22nd different date and mint pre-1940 Lincoln I have found.
Got a few more holes filled this past four days as I powered through 8,200 cents and found 29 wheaties... The thrashed 1911, 1935-D, and 1940-D are new finds... 3rd each for the 1919 and 1919-S. I'm now only missing 6 coins from my 1934-1958 "short set"... 35-S, 36-D, 37-D, 38-D, 39-D, and 43-D.
2 hole filler nickels yesterday (47D and 48S) has brought me down to 8 coins to finish off the decade. 7 of those being silver nickels.
43P, 44P, 45P, and 45S. No I actually found the 49S about a couple weeks ago, it was caked with dirt and grime, so I had no choice but to clean it up with soap and water. 46S is the only non war coin left.
Oh, I think I remember that now... the 46-Ss are out there so you'll probably find one at some point in the near future... I think you'll probably find a 43-S too... the 44-S is a little tougher... the D-mint Wars and the 1942 P&S coins seem to be the toughest... good luck!
Thanks man. Funny, I just found another 48S yesterday, what are the odds, two in as many days... Hopefully a D mint war nickel will come my way soon, it would be nice to have a CRH example from all 3 mints
It's funny how those things happen sometimes... found two 1936-P Buffalos the last day of last month... weird stuff! And yeah, those D mint War Nickels are tough! I have found FIVE total in almost 250,000 coins searched.
Knocked off the 37-D wheatie today... Only missing the 1935-S, 1936-D, 1938-D, 1939-D, and 1943-D now for my short set...
