I had some "better" surplus world coins I've been holding onto for awhile and finally decided to sell. So I had the first group listed, and many had 3, 4, 5 watchers heading into the last day. When the auctions ended, only one got more than one bid (2), and several got no bids. This always seems to happen to me. What are these people watching for if they don't intend to bid? Sometimes I watch a coin and the bidding gets too high and I don't bid, but I think it's weird that every coin I'm selling all the watchers are just watching. I have a bigger group ending in a few days and some have 4 or 5 watchers already. If they all only get one bid I'm not going to be too happy.
I sometimes watch a coin that I am interested in for a slightly lower price. If I get an ebay bucks deal, I buy, or if it gets no bids, it might relist lower priced.
If you have just 4-5 watchers, it's my guess that they are just looking to buy them for the cheapest possible price. Chris
Watching is how I remember coins I like. At any given point, I may have a dozen different coins on Watch. In an average week, I look at 2-3000 coins on Ebay; how else do you expect me to remember? It's not necessarily about stuff I want to buy. It can also be about wanting to know what that one hammers at for valuation purposes, or to see if anyone else picked up on the unmentioned added-value feature that I did.
I had everything listed for a price I could live with but I thought there was some room to go up, so it's a little disappointing. This is why I am never willing to try the "true" auction. I feel like I'll end up selling everything for 99 cents. I'll have 300 watchers, but one bidder.
Here's a few examples of coins that sold but just got the one bid. Now these aren't thalers or anything, but I'm pretty familiar with the market for this stuff and I know it could have gotten more. http://www.ebay.com/itm/262727396821?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/262727401468?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/262727403191?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/262727394770?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649
I looked at a few, will look more later. I did see a couple that looked interesting, but not familiar to me. Not much information on them through, shipping costs are extremely fair, prices low. I would purchase from your store.
I watch many more coins than I bid on. Sometimes it is just curiosity to see what it will go for. If I am thinking of buying a certain coin, I will watch several to get a feeling of what I will have to pay when I do decide to buy.
Whether on eBay or Vcoins, 30% of the coins I watch are simply to remind me to look for one like it someday, 30% are watched because of the insane price or fakery (curious to see if anyone is crazy enough to bid), 30% because I already have one like it and want to see what the value is these days, and 10% or less are watched because I might actually bid on or buy that coin.
I watch many more coins than I buy. It's just the process of identifying candidates, comparing prices and grades, and coming to a conclusion of what I want to pay.
I have the same problem with some more expensive coins. Listed on the auction area here and still no action.
I have had the same experience. The most watchers I recall was 26 for a buy-it-now listing I had. Many good reasons have been listed. Reasons that I watch something even if not planning to buy include: *seeing where the market is on the item *planning to list for sale a similar item (so want to look at final price/listing for ideas on how to list the item) *it's a cool item that I know will go for a lot and I want to see how high the bids will go *I haven't seen another like it so I want it for reference in my watch list *Waiting for ebay bucks or for the price to decrease Another thing that I notice with some bidders is that they don't have the funds to buy multiple items, so they'll watch multiple items and only bid on what they want the most (this is a good strategy...much better than the people that bid on everything and then not pay for most items).
I usually watch world coin lots because I A. Want to buy but don't want to bid early and drive up the price B. Want to know how much they sell for so I can bid intelligently in the future
