    The Half Dime Arrows!

Update: this contest is now CLOSED.

Up for grabs are 6 coins that are all of quite good quality, ranging from a Lincoln cent to a silver quarter. This is only me first time doing this, and I wanted to try it out.

Shipping is completely free for anyone in the U.S. I currently do not ship worldwide.

    Here are the rules:
    1. You may enter for a chance to win any of the first 5 coins, and you can enter in as many as you want.
    2. To enter, tell me a number between 1 and 50 for one of the coins. You cannot enter a number that another member has selected for the same coin. However, if the same number for another coin is not selected, you may do that.
    3. You do not have to enter a number for all of the coins, but that is required if you want to win the 1935 quarter.
    4. To win the 1935 quarter, you must win at least 4 out of the 5 coins.
    5. On the 15th, I will draw winners using a random number generator. There will not be a guaranteed winner for all of the coins unless every number is used, but since there are 50 numbers, there could be a good competition and chat with coins.
    6. If you won something, PM me with your address so I can send the coin to you. I will NOT use any of your information against you in any way.

    Here are the coins:

    (1) 1982-D Lincoln Cent, Large Date

    (2) 1920 Cuba 5 Centavos
    20241009_210730.jpg 20241009_210736.jpg
    (3) 1959 QEII Half Crown, with Pendant (Pendant may be silver, has not been tested)
    20241009_210825.jpg 20241009_210837.jpg
    (4) 1941 East Africa 5 Cents 20241009_210947.jpg 20241009_210953.jpg
    (5) 1955 Mexican 5 Centavos

Grand prize pictures will be sent in the next post.

Good luck, everyone! Remember, to enter, simply tell me a number between 1 and 50, and what coin(s) you want to enter for.

Good on you for offering a contest, @The Half Dime!

Since you do not wish to ship any of these prizes outside the US, I am happy to volunteer as an intermediary and handle that part. You can ship to me and I’ll forward the prize on to the international winner.

Or if you change your mind and DO decide to ship internationally, I’m happy to reimburse your cost. For single, unencapsulated coins like this, it shouldn’t be too bad. I fold such things up in a letter so the contents won’t shift around inside the envelope. A regular overseas letter doesn’t require a customs declaration. That only kicks in when you’ve got a package.

Well, I do thank you! If I do decide to ship them to you, so you can ship worldwide, it would be for just this time, as I don't want to take advantage of you.

Thankfully, as I learn more about worldwide shipping, I will try it. Likely in the next contest, I will do it with raw coins. Until a few minutes ago, before looking it up, I had never heard of a global forever stamp, or that worldwide rates were actually as low as $1.55.

Hopefully soon, I can expand to silver, and possibly even gold! For this one, it is basically a trial run for what might be a running series.

Also, are there any coins in this contest that you would like to enter for a chance to win?

I’ll enter for #5- the 1955 Mexican 20-centavos, and will pick the number 26.

I may enter for another later, but for now I'll guess #17 for the 1955 Mexican 5 Centavos, as I think my youngest brother would love to add this to his growing collection. Every holiday I give him a bag of foreign coins to add to his pirate chest.
@The Half Dime, I appreciate your generosity in hosting a giveaway.

Thank you all! At 6 on Tuesday, I will announce the winner of the drawings. You could easily be the next lucky winner of some coins, depending on how many you enter for.

Also, Abram, you mean the 1955 Mexican 20 centavos, right?

For #3, the 1959 British halfcrown with pendant, I’ll choose 44 (Mom’s birthyear) as my lucky number.

I will say that pendant looks like silver, and my wild guess would be that it’s probably about as old as the coin itself is. Cool piece. Probably worth more as a jewelry item than the coin itself would be. If I win it, I’ll give it to my sister.

    Here are the winning numbers:
1982-D Lincoln Cent, Large Date - 41 (no entries)
    1920 Cuba 5 Centavos - 23 (2 entries, no winner)
1959 QEII Half Crown, with Pendant - 11 (1 entry, no winner)
    1941 East Africa 5 Cents - 46 (no entries)
    1955 Mexican 5 Centavos - 7 (2 entries, no winner)

Each one was done in an honest manner, as the first number drawn was the one put down.

Thank you for participating, and I hope to see you in the next one!

Ah, crap, I noticed that 5 centavos again.... copying and pasting is gonna get the best of me one of these days!

Hopefully I can bring in some more items for the next giveaway. One day, I could eventually give away a rare paper note (if I ever decided to buy one)!

Good on you for offering a contest. I’ve added the “closed” notices up top, but I’ll wait a while before I lock the thread down completely for the archives.

Edit: over a month later, and no posts from the winners, apparently. Hope you heard from them in private messages. As a matter of forum housekeeping, I will now lock this thread down for posterity.
