I have some coins at PCGS - world coins with economy service. The turnaround time is supposed to be 60 days (estimated). My package arrived 4/1 and is still in the grading phase.... we're over 90 days now. Anyone else experiencing extra slow turnaround at PCGS this summer?
Actually that's 72 business days. They don't count days they are at shows either. Still they are late. I had a submission that was much longer but they were variety attribution coins.
I’ve done scores of submissions to PCGS over the years. I’ve never had an economy submission (U.S. or world) come back in the estimated time. I’ve had higher tiers come back on time or even early. The estimated time for economy should be labeled “minimum time if you’re lucky”. Cal
I have some coins pending with NGC. Their turnaround time currently says 45 business days... I'm at 50 already. These long waits are so frustrating. The PCGS website says lists this for coins graded the last 30 days: Total Coins Graded* 251,352 WTF, how is that even possible. Where are all these coins coming from? 250k in a month? Where are these submissions from? This just boggles my mind. It only makes sense if I consider e.g. boxes of eagles coming straight from the mint, by the tens of thousands, straight to PGCS to grade. But 250K from just older coins sent in by collectors? How???
I know it is but that's the normal. It's really busy. Coins are coming in from all directions to be graded. I'm used to it.
My order to PCGS (Economy 45 days) was 59 business days. At the 50-day mark, I called and was told that +15 days would be needed to make them late (60).
You can look at the orders and see what coins are being graded. Link is www.pcgs.com/shared-orders/ . Cal
Oh thanks! I had no idea that you could actually see that. I clicked on 15 random numbers on pages 1 and 9. 13 of the 15 were for Chinese or Hong Kong coins....
Yeah, in recent months, maybe years, Asian coins (mostly Chinese) appear to constitute most of the business. Though the website doesn't show the location of submitters, I presume most of the submissions of Asian coins come from Asian countries. There might be periodic peaks for other types of coins. For example, in the weeks after the U.S. Mint issues a new release, there is probably a flood of those coins going for grading. Be aware that submitters can check a box to not share their orders. I've always assumed that most allow sharing. I do. Cal
