it's better to stitch your pics together like this-- and you should include attributions if you know them and if you don't know; you should try to figure them out. here is one of mine with the description Maximianus A.D. 285-286 Alexandria, Egypt Ӕ Tetradrachm 20mm 6.6g A K M OVA MAΞIMIANOC CЄB; laureate and draped bust right. Reverse: Zeus holding patera and sceptre, eagle at feet, L A (year 1) in right field. Emmett 4164
That's what I thought it was a maximinius I had it in the coin flip long ago I have not looked at any of these in quite a while. I have quite a few more I'll be researching this one first off
I believe the second one I had pictured would beAlexandria, Probus, Tetradrachm. Please correct me if I'm wrong
Something like this one:- Probus, Billon tetradrachm, Alexandria, Year 3, Eagle right (palm) Obv:- A K M AVP PR-OBOC CEB, Laureate, cuirassed bust right Rev:- None, Eagle standing right, palm on wing, wreath in beak Minted in Alexandria, Egypt. L in left field, Gamma in right field. Year 3. 277 - 278 A.D. Milne 4564. Emmett 3981(3) R1. Curtis 1854. BMC 2439
An Alexandrian tetradrachm of Gallienus, dated 11th year (264/5 AD). The style is completely different.
Me too for ancients, especially (not an authority on U.S. coins, but I know more about them than ancients). I don't think I've advanced to the "novice" stage yet, but I'm learning, lol. There is a wealth of information on here, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can, as I know you are too. Just keep on searching!
Hmm. Not sure why my image above is not displaying correctly. I have a gallery of my collection of Probus coins from Alexandria here, which is useful as a starter for the more common versions of these coins. I am in the process of updating the photos as many of them are quite dated now. It contains most of the major types. I am missing the emperor on horseback reverse, which still eludes me. I have used most of the standard references. https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=1721 The Probus above is Milne 4564:- https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=190300 which differs from Milne 4562 and 4563 due to the obverse legend break https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=190315
