Sunday, I went to a coin show in Van Nuys. Sitting at a table looking over $0.50 coins, a young boy came up to the table (his family was following) and asked the dealer "Would you have a 2 cent coin that's not too expensive". The dealer pulled out some and the boy's eyes lit up! I told him that if he had a two-cent coin, he needed a three-cent coin. He said he would love one but weren't they very expensive? The dealer pulled out a couple of low-end three-centers and I'm not sure how long it has been since I have seen a kid so happy!
Thanks for that story! Maybe that's what my neighbor's kid's need. Those "rugrats" are always screaming and crying....
That brought a smile, thanks. I remember buying a 3c at a shop when I was a kid, saw it in the case and thought how cool. $3.75 was almost an acre's worth of lawn mowing but I had to have it. Did the kid end up with both types?
I have always had a fondness of the odd types, 2 and 3 cents, half dimes and half cents! I remember how excited I was just finding out there was such a thing as a two cent piece!
I enjoy reading this feel-good forum story this morning. I remember very vividly my mind racing and eyes popping out of my head when I saw a Mercury dime for the first time. This kid is a collector in the making and kudos for the parents for letting him explore it.
The Silver Three Cent Pieces are a lot more expensive, even in low grade. When I was a dealer I had 7 of them in a junk box that had not dates. They sold for $5 or more in no time flat.
Yep and the dealer was kidding him about getting a half-dime to go with them. The kid was in 7th Heaven.
