I bought these 4 coins for $70. I hope I made a good call. Tell me what you think. Obverse, reverse, and edge of each coin in order from greatest to least.

I think it boils down to if your happy with them and ok with what you paid then everything is good to go.

For me I see to much damage, wear, and cleaning on them. The 1790 doesn't look to bad.

But I think you could get better quality pieces for that price. even if only 1 AU-MS is better than 4 culls in my opinion

Those are pretty cool!! But you're freaking me out holding those coins with metal tweezers to shoot the edges. Please don't do that. If you need to, wrap the ends of the tweezers with tape or paper or something, that way you won't be at as much risk of scratching the surfaces further.

Fun looking group. Could someone post a bit of history about the first one with the chop marks?

They look metal in the pictures don't they? They're actually a grey plastic pair from a first aid kit. I'd never use metal, but maybe I shouldn't even use the plastic ones.

Matthew great pick up. But I'm surprised you usually a do a little better in bargaining. You Couldn't get the guy down maybe $20. Matthew I'm sure in your electrical supplies you has some heat shriek. Occasionally I like to use alligator clips for better control. And I found that heat shrink works great and covers the alligator teeth in the clips. Had the used to heat shriek on it though.Actually went to coin accessories supply. And picked up a pair of plastic coin tweezers. I think I use them once when I first got them. But truthfully I use the alligator clips and you know what else. Haven't use the coin tweezers sents.:blackalien:PS. Matthew Happy turkey day to you and your family

When imaging your specimen shoot it at 90 degrees also shoot the reverse so that others are not looking at the coin upside down. To shoot edge shots take a pack of 2x2 ' s that are rubber band together and slip the coin in the pack dead center. The pack will hold the edge at again 90 degrees . From the angle you have taken your photos it's hard to see all of the coin correctly .
There are plenty of Reales out there, and plenty of fakes.
I would suggest that if these are some thing that sparks an interest in collecting you may wish to read up and research them before buying .
Since quite a few fall into the wreck category it would be beneficial to know if you're looking at a wreck specimen or one harshly cleaned.

    I think you did OK.

I would have been a little under that amount but close.

I took the 4 coins to my LCS Today. Just to see what he thought. Told him what I paid. He offered to buy them for $130, which I declined. But, it made me feel a little better.

I just noticed that the 1790 2R has a really cool die clash just east of the bust. I understand that this is common on this type of coin. Still neat though.
