Just letting everyone know I never bought it.
The manager today was not happy when I told him that they were fake. and if he questioned my opinion then, he should run them down to ANACS for grading.
He pulled them from the shelf, but, I will check to see if they stay off the shelf.

It was a compliment for Christ's sake!

Again, it was a nod to using something easily verifiable instead of and/or in addition to what isn't always so clear cut, but this is apparently beyond your ability to understand.

I thought I was the one who had PICKIN in his title.
The way you two are going at it, I feel like I need to pat myself on the Back. Is there an emoticon that expresses that?

You should and that was the whole point! Why Markus decided to make an issue out of nothing I do not know, but my post to you was sincere and (to you) I apologize for the ensuing nonsense.

It was clear that you made a compliment. It seems some folks just can't read... oh ... and how dare you to post your opinion so late? ;-)

And just to be clear, @Markus1959 is a good friend of mine. Call me that "RED" guy that that doesn't come off of Partisans ways.
I appreciate ya'll, Thanks for the help on The bunch of fakes.
    I have a question, though?
When, and if I find these pieces back on the shelf.
Say, some are slabbed??????? Would any one here? Be, willing to buy them if they were ? IE Spanish Trail, Oregon, And Panama Pacific.
My pocket book isn't that deep.
I found it pretty wild that when looking up the coins in a price guide.
The Spanish Trail still keeps a major premium even in VF.
It's Paddy's Fault he combined the two threads when he made the "Honey hole" comment.

Sure blame me :pompous: and to be the first to reply to your question no! Absolutely no! I concur that this pawn shop dealer is either slick or knows nothing about coins.
My take it's a 50/50 call. On what he sells being the real deal.....

If you have Bill Fivaz book on Counterfeit Detection Guide on page 22-23. Has information on exactly what to look for. Also has a picture, but not a real large details. I think that the coin shown is not real. Sorry.

Yes - you are so good with info sometimes but then you make us small time collectors feel like idiots - I like you - can you berate idiots and then just treat us small time collectors to your information? I would appreciate your wisdom!!

Unless a coin is obviously fake, I believe it's dangerous to make a call from a picture. I would only give my opinion if I had the coin in hand. I would only buy a coin from a pawn shop if it was graded by PCGS, NGC or ANACS. We have several in town and they buy them and flip them, they're not educated on fakes and are only interested in making a quick buck.

Nice talk, your post doesn't deserve a reply. I'm surprised a moderator didn't edit it out. What are you 12?

The 3 legged Buffalo is struck by one specific die. The mint mark location will always be the same relative to all design devices on every example. The mint mark location on the questionable example is not the same as the authentic example provided in this thread. Sorry for the pixelation of the images provided. That happens when I convert a TruboCad drawing into a jpeg image. Don't think this site supports uploading of CAD renderings. cointalk compare.jpg

Although the coin collecting community recognizes the 3 Legged Buffalo Nickel as a variety it really is not in the true sense of the word. It was produced from an over polished/abraded die. I have often wondered when this abrasion occurred. Prior to initially being placed in service or was this die removed from service due to a minor clash or other reason and the polishing is a repaired die placed back into service. If it is a repaired die placed back into service then examples (coins) struck by this die with all legs would exist. Just something I find interesting to ponder. Do you think 4 legged examples of the 3 legged Buffalo exists?

It would be nice if Dan Carr would do one, with a moose on the obverse or maybe a 3 legged moose would be better.
