I thought i would start this thread based on my own experiences and share some of the
Techniques i use to get the high value note that seems far out of reach, you do not to be
rich just persistent! some of us are a little more dedicated to the hobby then others and That,s ok, we all have are limits on what were willing to spend, over my 20 years of collecting MPC, the most i have ever paid for a note is $7,500 i could never put out that
all at once but i was able to negotiate the note and he let me make payments on it, you will find many dealers and individuals willing to do this of course it all depends on on there situation on how bad they need the money but as always it doesnt hurt to ask,
Paying a few dollars each month less-ons the pain! then having to come up with it all
at once or trying to save up, that,s hard because something always seems to come up
and the money is used for something else.

This seems so easy but many people look at a note that they really want and just assume that it is far beyond there reach, maybe it,s closer then you think :)

    Just my two cents...

I think you make a great point. Having a dealer who you have a relationship with makes a huge difference too. Doors like that tend to open easier if you have that trust built.

I,m actually in the process of buying two notes this way about $3,000 worth both
Are on the rare side in the MPC world, but to shell out that kind of cash with the holidays right around the corner is difficult for sure so iam happy i was able to make the deal work.

Many currency dealers will take payments over time. And, in case you were wondering, the notes do not change hands until they are completely paid off. I have done this several times, and usually pay off high end notes within 6 months.

No one would send notes in advance of full payment unless there was a comfort level between buyer and seller, but many people look at a expensive notes and say i wish i had the money, where there,s a will there,s a way.

No big deal Rusty, but do you realize you're using a comma where an apostrophe should be used ?

Well not notes...but my ancient dealer has allowed me to make payments on some coins that I never thought I would be able own.

You know what's funny. I have been collecting for years and I have never considered this as a way to acquire nice pieces. I may consider this in the future if I have a dealer who is willing to work with me.

I get my high-value notes as problem notes... Worlds cheaper!

Yes they are cheaper however when you go to sell them, they can be very difficult to move as a dealer i have found this to be very true.

That is an excellent point. I personally do not expect to be able to sell any of my problem notes for what I paid for then. But then again, I don't think I'll be selling them anytime soon!

I have known some really cool dealers. They knew me well enough to just say, take it with you and pay when you can. Over time I had to get away from that. Before I had something paid for, I found something I wanted more. I feel better just saving the funds until I can just pay it all at one time and still have a large reserve.

I tend to completely agree with you. I think there are occasional exceptions to this...like when dealing with exceptionally rare notes. A while back I picked up a 1902 National Currency Note of which only 6 known examples exist. It was a note from a bank in my home town. It is certainly a problem note but due to it's rarity I figured it was worth picking up. I may never see another one.

yes that would be a good exemption in some cases, damaged or blemished notes
is all you have so in that circumstance it would get my seal of approval :)

I like paying for everything up front as well but when ever i try to save money up something always seems to come up...LOL and there goes the money !!
