That's a little chancy. Do you have a record on how many of these were minted and sold? They'd all be in pretty good shape, I'd suppose. Or what is distinguishing on this one?
One of the items stolen and later seen on eBay was a coin club medal struck over an 1881 Morgan Dollar. The tarnish spots and other remaining visible details from the 1881 coin matched up perfectly under a ballistics-level comparison.
Just goes to show you how little people know about numismatics and how much attention to details is put forth by collectors, especially variety collectors. Hopefully an arrest is forthcoming.
Haha that would be interesting. One of them has been around for years. They look at everyone coming through the door like they are criminals. Not a very friendly place.
That's actually common in my area. One of my best friends has two shops. He goes above what the laws require. Not a good place to sell anything stolen.

Another option is simply posting a small reward for information. Let the junkie's girlfriend turn him in.
