I bought one of these. I will post photos when it arrives. They don't seem too common. Anyone know more about them?
From my understanding and what ive read from the cherrypickers guide, the two feathers varieties came about from over polished obverse dies. The third feather, being the smaller less noticable feather below the two bigger feathers.
Evan8 is spot on. I have several of these. Did not even realize it until earlier this year going through coins put away decades ago.
Two Feathers occurs on a number of different years. It is from overpolished/overused dies. It is the exact same effect that produced the "no AW" Walkers, and the Three legged Buffalos. Some people think they are cool - different types/dates sell for more (the three legged ones are really popular and sell for absurd premiums. I don't know why.)
I would be curious to know if there were any mintage totals, guessed at or otherwise on the 3 leg varieties, or just the totals graded by TPG's so far. Album makers had something to do with their popularity by including spaces for these as well as the 55 & 72 doubled die cents. Irritated me as these coins were error/varieties and really had no place in the albums. I remember a lot of folks useing a 1955 Poorman's doubled die for that one spot, only to confuse someone else later getting those coins in inheritance. They finally took these out.
