I was going to let this go to tomorrow, but everyone pretty much proved my point already. The top coin is graded VF35 from PCGS with a CAC sticker to boot. The bottom coin is in my half set that was graded 35 as well( I sent in raw). Which would you rather have?
Initial impression: 40 and 53. Second thought, to be conservative: 35 and 45. These thoughts were before I read your post revealing the grades. Now, seeing your results posted, I guess I barely squeaked by on the first and came in low on the second. But I will stick to my (secondary) guns and say that while I think the first is spot-on in a 35 holder, I think the second is a bit undergraded. And, in answer to your other question, I would rather have the second one, though both are perfectly nice coins. (Shall I PM you my shipping address now?)
Just as a general pointer, for EF the lines between the feathers near the wingtips must be clear and not worn together. Not seeing that on either coin. For EF-45, there must be remnants of luster. Not seeing that either. So VF-35 seems right for the second one IMO. EF is too high. As for the first one, it just further supports my opinion that the TPGs are nothing but a big sham.
My first reaction was 20 and 35. When I saw your reveal, I was surprised. That top one is severely overgraded. And CAC'd too? For shame. I've said it before and I'll say it again - collectors have to learn to grade for themselves, and can't rely on the slab (or the sticker, as I have also said many times).
