Came across this beauty today. I know its not perfect but its still in great condition considering its age. 20161118_162751.jpg 20161118_162751.jpg

Your coin is puzzling. While it is still in relatively good shape, the marks all over both the obverse and reverse in differing directions make me question what was done to the surface. If the surfaces were altered, then the coin is considered to be damaged, and not a good find.

OTOH, even if this coin was fresh from the Mint, it would not be scarce or rare by any means. Nickels can be found in change going back into the 1800s if you search enough.

That said, it is a great coin for learning. There are lines on the reverse that suggest extreme die fatigue from being over-used. Lots of things can be learned from this coin, so... good find?... maybe... worth anything?... probably not.

Interesting I didn't really pay great attention to the lines. When giving this coin a closer look is it possible it was printed over another coin?

If you're happy, it's a fine find regardless of what anyone else thinks or says. Your coin does display some fairly strong/obvious die issues (as Mike mentioned), which is fairly common (I once had a genuine OBW of this same date/mint that, when opened, was filled with similar examples) so be careful not to confuse this with the other marks he mentioned.

While anything is possible, I don't think there's any evidence of that on this coin. If you want to see what a coin struck over a coin looks like, pull up the thread on Green18's 1964-D Morgan Dollar. It was struck over a real Morgan Dollar, and thus will demonstrate both what you can see of the host coin and what is obliterated.

*Green's "privately made Daniel CARR 1964-D Morgan dollar" novelty/copy.

Being as the OP is newer, and this forum gets a sizable amount of newbie traffic who may not be familiar with what it is, clarification is prudent.

    (no offense intended, of course)

Printing is for paper. The word you are looking for is pressed (or minted). It looks like a good nickel to fill a folder. If you don't have one already you can pick one up for less than 5 bucks.

It's a good find. For the reasons aforestated. ;)
