    thanks. found it in my 2002 Krause catalog. Great Britain KM#520.1 , 1703 5 Guineas, weight- 41.7500g. or 1.2305 oz. .9170 gold. note: struck from gold seized at Vigo Bay, Spain. great story and find.

    You and me both, being in Alberta does not give me much chance but I have found a couple rings for friends.

    I'm lucky enough to be in Europe for now an have come up with some late roman empire coins and ingots. Nothing like this find though. I have skipped over large objects though that I figured were old beer or soda cans (large/loud) and now hope it was not a nice stash of coins!

    I can speak for Sicily, 200 or more years ago people did not put their money (silver coins) in banks. They would hide their coins in holes in the walls of their homes or bury them under the olive tree.

    My grandmother's house in Sicily was over 700 years old and there are some that are even older. People do find hordes of old silver coins when they demo or remodel those old houses.
