For someone who collects cuneiform tablets (albeit, a small collection), my heart just sank when I saw this in the news. Destruction of priceless artifacts is definitely a war crime and I hope some justice can be made http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-37992394
@TJ1952 I just remembered what the Russians restored in Palmyra. There can always be hope. It's just a thought, I mean.
It is OK to post regarding the damage, but Please stay away from current world politics, etc. Take it to partisanlines.com to discuss. Thanks ,Jim
There are some people to whom History started in the 7th Century CE., and all evidence of previous human civilization must be wiped out because it is rather inconvenient. Now excuse me while I go to partisanlines.com so I can say those names and not get in trouble.
What a shame. Something like this was not an oops my bad, this was as intentional as someone trying to exterminate a wasp nest. Pathetic!!
I saw they reconquered it from ISIS, if I see the pictures, it indeed very sad idiots. I hope they can still make restoration of the pieces.
Of particular concern to collectors: I've heard rumors that this organization is financing their operations by selling collectibles, statues, artifacts, and art on the black market. Obviously, buying/owning any of these pieces is illegal. Is there a way to make sure that the coins we purchase are not from the areas/museums plundered? Or do you just avoid artifacts from that region/culture?
