Daniel himself claimed that what he uses as planchets is the only thing that makes what he does legal and sets him apart from the case cited in that thread. And as you should know Kurt, that doesn't make any difference at all.

You should also know that just because someone has not been prosecuted for what they are doing, that doesn't make what they are doing legal.

...and this back and forth has been going on, and on, and on. Both sides are stuck in their belief and true or not, law or not, the issue is done. If the feds want to get him fine and one side can gloat.

Therefore, if I were a moderator and a "new'" Carr product was posted AS I THOUGHT THIS WAS, in my opinion (as moderator) anyone who started the legal crap would be warned to stay off the thread AFTER they took one shot. This is about his coins and it appears this legal stuff (although interesting) is causing the same reactions from members as politics. If that poster was the first reply as in this case, I should consider him/her a troublemaker :)( and I should know :sorry: - agree?).

So if I alter a genuine US 1922 D lincoln to become a 1922 no D, then that is legal and can be sold with no punishment and posted without rancor ??

I really want to say something, but out of respect to OP's wishes, I wont.

    I agree with @Insider
These threads are becoming extremely redundant.
@Cascade just posted his so why not go taint his thread now too.

Hey Green. On the reverse of the coin, I can almost see an outline of a second Eagle. If you look at the Eagles wing on the left side of the reverse and his head...just to the side there is almost a phantom second eagle. Is this an effect from the photography or is it a remnant of the original coin?

Nope. That is creating an issue that exists and done with intent to defraud

No, that is just as much an altered coin as a US coin with one side shaved down to make a love token, or an elongated token, or a DANIEL CARR DOLLAR. IMO, the difference to a SENSIBLE jurist or the Federal agents is THE INTENT TO DEFRAUD.

But I could say it was just so everyone could have a fantasy coin, as you know there were no official 1922 cents from Philadelphia that year. Oh , I can make a transfer die and use it , so it is not 'altered' individually, but minted. I could even stamp them on original us made 1922 D lincolns. OK now?

I understand that you are trying to make a somewhat sarcastic point...but this would be replicating a coin that actually exists. Even though it was not intended to exist it does and is therefore a forgery.

Using this scenario is comparing apples to oranges. The coins that DC produces don't exist and never did (the obvious exception being the 64-D Peace Dollar which none are known to exist and if they do they are illegal). If you were making a 1922-S Lincoln Cent it would be like what DC is doing.

Actually, I think that is a great idea! Go for it and add edge reeding. :D

Hey @dcarr What do you think about Jim's suggestion. Nice hole filler.

May I ask what authoritative legal agency has determined/adjudicated this "token" illegal? I believe your opinion, expressed as a unverified statement, is inaccurate.

And the coins being produced by the Westminster Mint, referenced in the thread I linked, don't exist and never existed either. And that was found to be illegal. Which is exactly my point.

I'll be honest Doug...I didn't read much of the link. It's 42 pages and I have patients I need to see. But I will take your word for it.

I guess there is no real answer unless someone tries to legally challenge DC and see. I personally hope that never happens and if it does...I hope that he wins (and the cost doesn't ruin him) because I think he produces some really neat pieces. But, until that happens it's all just speculating...on both sides of the discussion.

I personally didn't realize how big of a hot button issue this has become on CT. I guess it's blown way up in my hiatus. I have stated my opinion on the matter and made it very clear that it is my opinion only. I'm gonna leave it at that...no reason to further argue the point.

If you have the time to reference a specific part of that long thread that discusses the issues with the Westminster Mint...I'd be interested to read it. I just don't have the time to wade through it.
