Hi all, can someone please tell me about the damage to this coin ? I think it's a mint error, but not sure. Looks great on reverse, and on both sides of problem area of obverse. Thanks in advance. ( bad pics, I know. )

This is just a guess, but it could be residue from tape used to hold it in an album slot.

Yep, looks like tape marks to me as well.

It's good to ask questions if it is or isn't but you can't assume that everything strange you find is an error.
Do you have error reference to help you?

Oh and the coin is UN PESO not UNPESO..
    Un - One
    Peso - Dollar

Thanks all, picked up at a thrift store, it seemed like the metal was peeling off, I thought was taped also, but no residue, maybe cleaned up ? Un Peso. Got it, thanks.

It was a chemical reaction on the coin from the tape glue.

Yeah, I should have been more specific in my reply. I agree with Bill. I've seen this sort of thing hundreds of times.

Who was it that said that I assume that everything strange I find is an error btw?

Those are silver plated. I don't pretend to know what happened to it, but it looks like the core alloy has been exposed on part of the surface.

That makes sense. It looks like tape has pulled off A layer, exposing the core. Thanks

    John.
