Thoughts on a Gold Coin

So I'm looking to purchase a $5 Gold Coin. My few specifications are that it be a Liberty and prior to 1900. I'm a chump for the "Cool" factor and a 1902 just isn't as cool as an 1882. I don't care about rarity and therefore my best bet would be a heavily produced year such as 1880 or 1882. In addition, I would like for it to be in AU/BU condition as the mark-up is not that great compared to the melt value. Finally, I would actually prefer it not to be certified so that I can eventually place it in an album. I have had tough luck finding an acceptable BU coin on Ebay for under $400. Recently, I found an online broker (I don't think they are shady, since they are all over CollectorsCorner and a pretty good website) that is offering a certified 1882 $5 in MS61 for $380. PCGS quotes this coin at $460 trending down.

Personally, I'm not interested in the value at grade because what I truly want is the BU associated with the coin. I don't have Greysheet so I don't know what a common BU Half Eagle would be worth but this seems pretty good. Its also low enough in price that since I won't be paying for the grade, I could always crack it for my album.

    What do you guys think?

Hard to tell without seeing the coin. With that said I prefer AU58 gold coins, but that's just me. Don't be afraid to crack the coin out of it's holder, just be careful.

Picture is uploaded below. I just really like the price point right now but I'm not emotionally involved. If there are better options, I'm all ears.

Thanks for the input. I placed the order. It will be exciting to get it. Now I'm going to have another question regarding albums so I will open a new post.

Nicely done. Recent Heritage results are in the same price ballpark, and this looks to be a good one. You may be "new" here, but it certainly looks like you've already learned how to do your homework. :)
