I would like to hear your expert opinions on whether this 1878 CC Half has been correctly graded.
The coin is now in a straight-graded TPG slab.
Le me say I don't agree or disagree with the current grade (since this is a little outside my mainstream U.S collecting focus). Just want to get a feel as to whether the grade on the slab is correct from people more familiar with seated coinage. Apply strict grading.

Will post the current grade later.

Thanks in advice for your help.

It looks like an EF-40. The only thing that bothers me is the scratch in the field next to the eagle's neck. For me, that would cause me to want to net grade it to VF35. Otherwise, I like the little bit of luster still peaking out of the eagle's feathers on the reverse.

40, unless there's more luster that I'm not seeing. A 45 grade wouldn't surprise me.

35/40 seems about right, although the scrape looks fresh. Like a staple scrape, to bad they may have detailed it.

    45. 50 if it has luster.

That coin has minimal wear like an AU coin, but has no apparent luster and a scratch. XF45

XF45. As original as I have ever seen. Just the way they are preferred.

I was torn between 30 and 35 but settled on 30 because of the scratch. Which, in my opinion, is not severe enough to keep the coin from grading.

IMO, this coin will buy and sell all day long as an XF-40. However, I agree 100% with Doug. VERY FINE 30-35.

What is interesting about the 'scratch' is that it appears to be two parallel lines with a small bit of orignal surface between them and it goes into the Eagle's neck.

Yep, that's the way some scratches look. I've always considered them from an edge reed scrape but who knows.
