I was wondering about this. I found a quarter in change, and I realized it didnt have its reeded edge. I was wondering if that is a mint error? its only a 1995 D quarter, but the edge is completely smooth.
haha, think its post-mint then, eh? I was just wondering, since it doesnt look like they were there at all.
yep, alot of slot machines will wear the reeding right off a quarter. its from all those other coins banging up against it. spend it, value 25 cents.:hail:
The reeds are put on by the collar when the coin is minted. No collar, no reeds, BUT, no collar also means a broadstruck coin since it is the collar which constrains it from spreading out.
I've read all the other responses and agree. However, on ebay this is a RARE error worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars! Yeah, put it in the piggy bank.
Ha when i first read this post my first instinct was to look how close to Las Vegas the original poster lived. Sure as hell, next state over!
yeah, but as far as I know only Las Vegas has TRUE quarter slots anymore. the rest have electronic card stuff.
Where - last time I was out there all the casinos had electronic stuff also. I used to like it when they used coins cause you could walk up to slot machines and find foreign money in the holders since the machine would not take them. Last trip in April I could not find any of the major casinos on the strip that used change - even the tropicana had went electronic. Sigh - no more change to search through.
no kidding? I talked to my friend who was just there, and he said here were a few original ones left.
I'm not a gambler but..... My wife and I like to vacation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Casinos up there are run by Native Americans. The first and only time I went to one was 2 years ago. Run by the Ojibway tribe. Wife played nickels I played quarters. All machines that we played used real coins. Bored the hell out of my honestly but I do still have a "bank wrapped" roll of Ojibway quarters.
Ask him where? I was sad to see the tropicana go electronic - heck even the airport uses electronic ticket now. The first thing I did at the tropican was put a 20 in the nickel machine, cash out, and then search the nickels as I spent them. Then do the same with a 10 on pennies - I did that twice last september and never found a wheatie or any jefferson older than 1960. In April my father paid for soft drinks twice and got change with 1940's nickels - one was a 45P. I can never get than lucky. In 2003 I was at a training class at MGM Grand - every day at lunch I would run to the casino and cash 20's out of the 50 cent slot machines then cash them back in at the coin exchange - I found exactly one 1964 Kennedy. I have not found anything silver in years - and yet I keep trying. The best I have done is find some foreign change (mostly mexican).
my dad has found one also, its a (new) Arizona Quarter, but no reeded edge, i to was wondering if it was one that was messed up in the mint
I was given a 1977 quarter, without ridges, or a letter after the date. It also appears to be a two toned color on the edges. Silver, on heads, copper color in the middle, then silver color on tails. The silver color on heads is a bitt mire thicker, than tails. Any experts...?
When you see a coin that has suffered more than it’s fair share of damage... Well, all bets are off after that. The condition of the coin confirms it is damaged. So the only rational conclusion then is that the reeding is damaged as well.
