Some really good stuff being posted here! Here's one of my fav. French medals. Looks like it was lacquered long ago, you can see the discolored areas. The toning is really nice though I think. The entrance to the exposition, was under the Eiffel Tower... french1889parismedal2obv.jpg 1889parismedal rev.jpg

I bought this from Beast Coins back in 2009, a beauty, for a pittance. I can't believe how prices for medals have gone through the roof. (Or maybe I can...) Anyway, I thought this was pretty enough to share.

Anybody know anything about this memorial token?(?) Like who manufactured it? For starters.... I was told it had a pop of 10 (all grades) at NGC but I'm not a member so I can't verify that info. IMAG3083_1.jpg

I have seen quite a few of these change hands in the past two or three months, so I'd be surprised with that population figure. I'm not sure who struck them, but the US Mint issued a number of tokens with a similar Washington bust.

Really??? Very interesting about the US Mint!(never woulda figured that) FYI, whoever made them, also produced the same token 1MM bigger as well, (also in silver) not sure why

The difference in sizes may have been due to the availability of blanks. Silver was kind of tough to come by when these were made.
