Holy moly. I always love to see long-dead threads revised. I was still in law school when this thing died.

I am trying to find a software for my world coins, as I don't have so many US coins. Is there something more specialized on the world coins? I see most of them focused on the US ones.

What do you want the software to do for you? Is it simply to catalog your collection or do you want something more? If you just want to keep track of your purchases, using Excel and creating a spreadsheet is easy and can be customized to gather only the information you deem important.

Almost an 11 year old thread! Haha.

I use Excel for my military tokens. For my ancients I created a database in Access. Access isn't hard to learn to make a basic database using tutorials on the internet. There are some interesting looking programs out there for world collectors but I've never used one.

I love using access for databases. I don't have this software on my personal PC, so I used excel.

Coin Elite will allow you to enter any coin you wish. It's easy to understand. Excel is great but it takes a bit of time and learning. Not hard to learn and it can be used for many other things.

I have tried several packages with no joy until I found EzCoin by Softpro. What made this program exceptional was the ability to add any coin from any country and the unbelievable product support. Although I had no issues, I did have a question about some ancient roman coins I have (5 of them). So I decided to call ( on a friday evening) and I actually got to speak to someone. Helped me quickly and were very friendly. For me, support for questions is critical. I now have a complete record of my coins. Now to fo out and buy some more. I am getting interested in coins of the WWII era, especially Chinese & Japanese coins. Hard to find though. Oh Well

With Excel you can place the location on your computer of your images in another cell.
The syntax is a bit tough when you start but you get get the hang of it rather quickly and after that you can do a LOT of Copy/Paste and just change the file name.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    Yeah, you could do that.

Or, you could use Excel's powerful formula writing package to change the file name automatically when you drag-and-fill. That's what I did.

Or, you could use Excel's even-more-powerful macro writing package to insert thumbnail images that pop up when you mouse over a cell. I experimented with that, but decided to go with the linked images instead.

I agree with Jason that excel is a great free way to go and you can input any information designed to your collection. As a beginner collector, would be a great way to go. The cons I have with excel is if you are well into your collecting, the startup is very time demanding inputing information. You can find some info that can be downloaded in excel format but then may not be formatted to your personal format you've already done. Coin software usually has most of the info already in a database that a collector is looking for, ie.mintages, designations, values, etc... The cons to those are customer service and of course, paying for yearly updates. Jmo

I started out using Excel for a basic list as I went through some unsealed piggy banks in the beginning. Currently, I still have my spreadsheet but it needs updated badly. I plan still using Excel send have it split up by coin series.
