You know, I don't think I have ever had this thought. Even when I upgrade to a nicer coin which I have a few times, I still do not want to release my hold on the lower end coin. Perhaps like someone here said in another thread, I am a hoarder. Perhaps I like to have examples that show wear and examples that show more of what the coin was like when struck. I dunno, but I hate getting rid of any of my coins. I once sold off a Caracalla to Eng, and I've regretted it ever since (I hope you like it John). Here are examples of duplicate coins in my collection. One at each end of the spectrum. First coin purchased: Upgrade:
So I really had to join the Eion Goose/Lizard Club and the last Naville auction afforded me the opportunity to do just that. I felt I had won the little guy for a bargain judging from the auction picture alone, but on arrival this week, it turned out to be even nicer in hand . MACEDONIA, Eion Circa 460-400 BC AR Trihemiobol. 0.83g, 12.4mm. SNG ANS 287-290. O: Goose standing right, head reverted; lizard above, H below. R: Incuse square. Ex E.E. Clain-Stefanelli Collection
Much nicer metal than most, plus a nice pedigree! Mine is so crystallized that I fear it will break if I look at it wrong.
Thanks! Most of these do seem quite crystallized. I was very pleasantly surprised with mine when it arrived.
Pretty sweet goose-addition, Z-Bro (a very cool example) ummm, I'm usually a huge fan of the crystallized-look, but it's always nice to have coins with "good metal" as well ... => they're "all" sweet!! ... your goose-example is always welcome to drop-by for a play-date with my coins
Sweet coins! I want one of these so bad. I'm such a reptile nerd. Here's my bearded dragon, Herbert: Erin
