great group bing! man, i've had one of these on my "list" for 4 years now...and still don't have one!
This one of the Praetorian Cohort will probably remain the centerpiece of my small collection of Legionary denarii. MARK ANTONY AR Denarius. 3.61g, 17.8mm. Patrae (?) mint, autumn 32 - spring 31 BC. Sear RCV Vol. 1 p. 284, 1483 (this coin illustrated); Crawford 544/8. O: ANT AVG above Praetorian galley right, III VIR R P C below. Nice series @Bing ! You still need a LEG IV apparently, though. The day I die, ask my wife, but it won't be cheap Mark Antony, Denarius struck at a travelling mint, c.32-31 BC ANT AVG III VIR RPC, Galley right LEG IV, Legionary eagle between two standards 3.67 gr Ref : HCRI #352, Cohen #30 Q
I have a pretty small fleet of Marc Anthony Legionary Denarii. These are my better 3 examples: Marcus Antonius. Legio VI - FERRATA. Denarius, mint moving with M. Antony in the East 32-3. Obv: ANT·AVG – III·VIR·R·P·C Galley right with rowers, a mast with fluttering banners placed at the prow. Rev. LEG – VI Aquila between two standards. Babelon Antonia 111. C 33. Sydenham 1223. Sear Imperators 356. RBW 1841. Crawford 544/19. Legio IX - HISPANA Legio XII - FULMINATA
Here is another which is also my most cherished because it is one which I found. It is very worn and so I cannot tell for which Legion it was struck.
You know... I was thinking the EXACT same thing in reverse... I could pillage your Legs II, VI, IX, XI, XIII, XVI, XIX, XX, XXII... You have really piqued my interest to start a focus on these. Yours is a great collection! I find them difficult to get a decent denarius with good Legio identifications that you captured. I am still bummed about the Chortis Specvlatorvm... I should have pulled the trigger.
LOVE your collection @Bing !! I once had about eight different legionary issues and also intended to complete the 'series' but now I only have one example---my old Heritage photo of Legio XVI: @Eduard Actually finding one and being the first to actually hold it again after all those centuries is beyond way cool.
Brilliant bit of work there, Bing. I'm still looking forward to getting my first example. I love this series for two main reasons: 1. The super attractive design on both sides. 2. The incredible historical significance. This is Antony and Cleopatra for goodness sake!

I agree => Z-Bro, you should get Sear to sign the book, with your coin and you and David arm-in-arm and cheersing!! Hmmm? ... or maybe that'd be too much?
