Hey guys I need some help determining if this is real or not, I picked up several Chinese and Japanese coins today real cheap and been doing some research on them and so far this one seems to be the one I think might possibly be real. None of the coins I picked up are magnetic so I took a chance but this coin weighs close to what its suppose to weigh @24 grams and the actual weight is suppose to be a little over 26 grams. I took the chance because they all seem silver when I had them in hand and I heard that there have been fakes made on silver so at the price I said why not. I havent seen one with the markings that are to the right of the profile though any ideas?
Funny then how Obverse looks suspect but reverse seems fine. Although denticles look a little off too.
whats driving me nuts is this looks like a 1 YUAN, 1914 aka Fat Man but im not seeing any with the writing that this one has to the right of the bust. My luck its Chinese for (This is a fake coin)
Counterfeit. Not a very deceptive one either. I wish every member posted photos as good as this when asking for opinions!
Probably, cover the coin with a tissue paper and see if you can still see it under a light. Silver is so reflective, you can see it.
Ok back from pawn shop, I figured since its a counterfeit doing an acid test wouldnt matter. It failed the acid test . IO took a swing in the dark since it wasnt magnetic and struck out. The old saying goes nothing ventured nothing gained, i'll probably give them to some kids I know and peak their numismatist interest.
