Your correct on the value. You need to get it certified by either NGC or PCGS for authentication purposes. It would be much easier to sell a $20k coin graded than raw. Who knows, you might even get a 65.

    Cool, cool find!!!

Sadly guys it belongs to a good friend who thought it looked different and asked me to check it out since I'm the variety guy, with a cut going my way if on the off chance it is something special and BINGO! :D:greedy: Just got off the phone with him and he's as happy as I am.

Damn. I got the sunglasses from badthad. I'm still kinda shaking. Fun to play with a raw 09 vdb matte proof. Some times things just fall in my lap (not the coin lol, figuratively. I had a feeling by the nose polishing it could be one so all valuable raw-coin handling protocols were initiated from the get go)

Handling protocols be damned. I'd touch that puppy with all ten fingers. Heck, I might flip it. How often do you get the chance to go heads/tails with a Lincoln Matte Proof? :p

I wonder when was the last time one of these surfaced raw?

It's about time one of these thread actually came to fruition. I think this is the first time I've seen a possible VDB MPL actually turn out to be one.

Just goes to show it can still happen even after 107 years.

So these dies were_not used for Business Strikes afterward, correct?

I don't think so. I don't know of anyone who has had or seen a business strike with all the diagnostics. As far as I know these diagnostics are unique to the VDB MPL.

Here I come to rain on the parade, look at the spacing between the top of the lettering ( UNUM ) and the rim .

Remember, proof coins are struck at least twice, the depth isn't there either in the strike ..

So you're saying No Matte, struck with retired proof dies? I mean how else would all the die characteristics be there then. I do see the differences with the pictures you posted though, very interesting thread to say the least.

Keep in mind too, only 1,194 Proof coins were only struck .
