This is one that I bought at an online auction awhile back and just recently opened. The price was right but I can’t believe the token. It’s a merchant token from 1850. S.A. Whitney from Glassboro, New Jersey is the merchant. It was labeled as a full reverse brockage and unusual for the series. The reason I’m just not sure is due to how thin this token is. I have no doubt that it’s real but it’s very thin. I know nothing of this particular token. If you dplit a dime in half through the coin with the obverse on one piece snd the reverse on the other piece it’s about that thin. The first photo is the obverse and the second photo is the reverse. The obverse is raised but the reverse is indented and backwards. Despite its rough look on both sides, it’s quite smooth. It leaves me lost.
It's a Shell Card remnant. (1852) Glassboro NJ 16b Glass Works S A Whitney Merchant Token. Shell Card Remnant. Unlisted Type. Ef. Plain Edge, 27mm, Brass.
Looks to be only one half of a shell card...other half may be missing. Is there a seam or rolled edge on the rim? Bruce
