Don't hate me, but, in just under 200,000 coins searched, I've found 44 of them.

I'll find one at some point. S mint nickels are tough to come by out here, I find a lot more 40 and 41Ss than I do 1950s S nickels. Probably because they made about twice as many those years than they did most other years

Yes, you will find one... just keep plugging away.

As a coin roll hunter, I'm pretty blessed to be out here on the West Coast... there are only 5 S mints I've found fewer than 11 of:
    1938-S (1)
    1939-S (4)
    1942-S (4)
    1944-S (7)
    1951-S (8)

The usual Denver suspects are tough for me:
    1950-D (0)
    1939-D (1)
    1943-D (1)
    1945-D (1)
    1938-D (3)
    1944-D (3)
    1942-D (10)

But some Philly coins (even common date War Nickels) are quite challenging out here:
    1955 (1)
    1950 (3)
    1945-P (3)
    1942-P (3)
    1944-P (5)
    1938 (8)

Which is why finding these this week made me pretty happy...

Quite impressive! I'm hoping to find a D or S war nickel or a 38 or 39 with MM, I've yet to find any of those coins, but hey if it was easy it wouldn't be fun.
How many 38Ds have you found so far?

Thanks... I will hit the 200,000 nickels searched barrier today when I purchase exactly 56 rolls... I have found 9 pre-40 MM Jeffersons now... so that's 1 every 22,098 coins - the equivalent of finding one every 11 1/2 boxes.

I accidentally omitted the 38-Ds from my original post... it's edited now (3).

Hopefully today's the day you get that stubborn 50D!
I wish I kept better track of what I've found, I had a system when I was buying boxes, but got lackadaisical when I switched to individual rolls.
Do you do significant ammounts of other denominations or mainly nickels and a smattering of others here and there?

I've got a little spiral notebook I log my finds in daily... NIFC halves, proofs, silver, pre-60 nickels, pre-59 wheats, and well-known collectible varieties such as the 1960 and 1970-S small date coins, along with a few very special error coins...

I do other denominations, but not in the quantity of nickels... probably do about 10,000 cents a month, 5,000 dimes, and 2,000 halves... I only sporadically do quarters right now. About 50,000 coins total in a typical month.

My first 20 rolls of post-200K searched coins produced this beauty! Only my 3rd! :) 1990dnofs.jpg

In a typical week for me I search 10,000 cents, 4,000 nickels, 5,000 dimes and 1,000 halves. So a typical month for me is 100,000 coins.

I'm going to be stepping it up here as Thanksgiving and Christmas approach... I'm hoping to be doing about 5,000 coins a day by the end of the year.

Everything except dollar coins. I would love to do 1,000+ of everything every day... once this stupid election is done, then I can up things.

Nice. I'm thinking of just doing cents for a while. Everything has slowed down so I might just stick with 8 boxes of cents a week for a few weeks and add more wheats to my collection.

Thanks... I ran into some bad batches of cents at the end of last month... Had a skunk string which actually extended to almost 3,000 of them... this month, the "normal" rolls appear to have returned, thankfully.
