Whizzing is something I have some difficulty identifying, as it comes along fairly infrequently. But the surfaces on this Barber dime look somewhat off to me - the surfaces are very smooth/clean but the luster is flat. It doesn't really look like just a dipping job to me, and the dealer is selling another problem slabbed whizzed coin. Any thoughts?
I really can't tell from the pics, they're a bit too dark. However I would trust my gut when looking at a coin....problem coins will always be problem coins, even with that nice die transfer from the obverse.
To me flat luster points toward a dipped coin. That's a very general statement but it's my starting point for dull coins.
I'm not seeing a whiz. The reverse does have a really nice clash. The images are too yellow to tell much more.
This (along with the others who suggested the same thing). Your written description is that of an overdipped coin, and the relatively even color tends to be how they tone after that overdipping. A shame, because it's a nice high-grade coin otherwise. I'm thinking it an originally nice coin which a previous owner removed darker toning from.
No red flag yet based on the pictures. Not that the coin doesn't have problems, I just can't tell from the pictures.
I'd need to see more pictures from different angles to tell for sure... leaning towards dipped at one time. ALWAYS trust your gut before buying a coin.
