I got this not long ago - it was listed by NGC as a “pattern” and somehow listed the weight as 11.3 gms, lighter than the normal 10 pence coin - that should weigh in at 11.31.
Anyway here are some pictures, the coin appears and feels in slab to be at least double the weight: 5ABA222E-6317-4FCB-8121-592493687E05.jpeg E8397F2E-89FF-4341-BC10-27B1405EC7DE.jpeg AA0C04AF-FAF7-49E3-8B07-896367F49809.jpeg 0D06F3C7-C9C3-46A0-BE6D-F0D4F837C1D2.jpeg C113948C-978A-4B7D-B6B7-9DDC998B8A8D.jpeg

I've seen some weird trial pieces like this for old German coins, but I don't think I've ever seen a 20th century version.

I read this thread because I wanted to see what a 19 pence coin looks like. A little disappointed.

How was it struck? Normal dies on a larger planchet?

Yes, but they certified it without weighing it. Makes me a bit mad at that. Quite something in hand.
