    Then it was 100% bogus.

Since, the Titanic sank on April 15th 1912, and
    1) the coin had to go from the US to England in 4 months, assuming January minting.
    2) it was 4 months old, at best, and no way could it have been 'well worn' in that time period.

even as a pocket piece, it would have taken longer to become 'well worn'.

Titanic history might be "cool," but it was also a microcosm of what was wrong with society at the time. (e.g. The rich get priority, "tower of babel" complex, etc). Probably not that cool for those that died and their families either.

Must have been a earlier date then..maybe a 1910. Don't remember it exactly.

This show is scripted all the way! Nothing is a "coincidence". People who "bring items into the shop" must submit them months before the episode is filmed, and everything is scripted, including the negotiated prices, etc...

It's fun to watch, but it's as real as TV Wrestling...

....and I don't object to that. At least it helps them get their facts straight. Not that I watch the show (or any show, for that matter).

Reality TV is not reality. Pickers, Pawn Stars, Storage Wars-all made up stuff. When Pickers came to visit my friend it was a three day ordeal. Day One-someone came to check him out. Day Two someone came to tell him how it would go down. Day Three-Pickers showed up for about 30 minutes.

    Too big to fail? :woot::eggface:

On a more personal note - my grandfather came over on the RMS Majestic. It was captained by the future captain of the Titanic - Edward Smith.

Ellis Island STILL has his arrival date wrong - showing he arrived in the USA some 15 years AFTER he signed his WW1 draft card as a naturalized US Citizen.

(No wonder we have immigration problems!)

I think only reason guys watch Pickers is to try and figure out how far the tatoos go.

Maybe I am missing something, but just what was "made up"? I can agree that items are specifically selected. Otherwise no one would watch. But I do not get "made up".

BTW, the Pickers bought a sign from a store I used to shop at and you need to ask Charmy what part of her camera was "made up". If you search, you should be able to find her thread detailing her experience.

What I get a kick out of is you have Rick who yeah he may be a reference geek ,but no way the other 2 who were lucky to get out of HS. Let alone know the facts on an item that is truly a piece of American history. 2 slugs who are reaping the fruits of Grandpa working his butt off over 40 plus years selling junk.

But one of our members here was on the show! Ask the Penny Lady she was on one of the early shows ,I believe selling a bomb site or camera .

    Coin was a 1906 O Barber Half.

ANYTHING with a provenance tracable to the Titanic has considerable value. Especially since the only things that can be legally bought and sold are coal retrieved from the seabed, anything recovered from the surface in 1912, and anything kept by the survivors. That makes any legal and authentic Titanic artifact very rare, and thus valuable.

Had I the money, I would pass on this half dollar and go for a $1 black eagle that was carried in the pocket of one of the seven survivors plucked from the water after the ship went down. Afterwards, this survivor wrote his story on the note. The name of the survivor escapes me at the moment, but I know that the note sold for more than $30,000.
