@Tem45 My LCS sells the 1943 steel cents from all mints at 6 for $1.00, even in lower mint state grade. Just too common.
No problem. Only ones with errors and high grade ones have value. They have replated many of them. The replating makes them look new but something you can see rust under the new plating showing through.
I think virtually everyone is aware of this coin. It seems as though most non-collectors and very new collectors are aware of these, but tend to think they are very valuable. I have to admit I do enjoy the three (set) I have. The night I made the decision to get them I was going to obtain a set in MS66, but the best looking were the MS65. So I saved a few bucks buying the lower grade. I haven't loooked in a long time. but I think in MS67 or > they start getting pricey.
My father saved the "Wheat" Cents, especially the steel cents. I have a box of the 1943 steel cents that are in an envelope 2 by 2's. Only a few have been graded, mostly MS 65. I have many other Cents that are very nice. I don't sell any of my collection of coins. I haven't looked at the book value lately, but I doubt they're not over a quarter each.
I picked up a set of three for 75 cents back in the early 70s. Reprocessed but I don't think many people knew they were doing that at the time, especially not kids who thought steel cents were cool. Just had to have 'em! Since then I got one in circulation, it's in a box somewhere.
Oh yeah. Certainly more than one post I have put on here that I wish would disappear…. This may be one of them….
