I have this $20 Bill that the Fancy serial number checker rated at 96.9% Is this tool accurate? I'm really liking to look for unique coins and bills, but would really like to find a resource that I can actually trust and do the research myself instead of posting useless questions here. My questions 1. Is this really a fancy serial number? 2. Is it worth more than face value? Thank you so much!!
Yes and no. Yes it's cool, and no it's not worth more. Excepting in liar's poker, I'd suppose, you've got five bullets.
I agree with @Collecting Nut, and will caution the OP from putting too much stock in the “Coolness Index”.
@Michelle Fritter, welcome to CT! While it may be eye catching, it's not something a "Fancy" collector would waste $20 to keep (perhaps if it was a $1, just because it "looks" intriguing). No. Still, thanks for posting it & continue the search. We look forward to your next find.
Since your new to CT and possibly collecting paper money let me try to explain more to help you understand. The coolness index you use shows your note is cool. It’s all odd numbers, snd it’s five of a kind. Look at the percentages and what they represent. No doubt it’s cool. But cool is not fancy. A fancy serial number that has interest to most collectors would be a number of things. Here are a few of them. 1) All digits are the same number 2) All 8 digits are 1’s and 0’s. That’s a True Binary 3) The numbers read the same forwards and backwards 12344321. This is called a Radar Note 4) There are 2 and 4 digit repeaters 12341234 is a four digit repeater and 12121212 is a two digit repeater 5) The numbers are in order 12345678 6) Or backwards 87654321 7) A ladder note 12345678 where each digit is higher 8) The signatures can make the note fancy The first 7 are the most common but there are other things that make the note fancy. Hope this helps.
Unfortunately, no. It shouldn't have a premium. The coolness factor website is a silly tool created for fun
