My favorite is typically the coin I most recently received. This is my favorite today, as it just arrived in today's mail! Nicer in hand than the photo suggests.
For me, it's actually pretty easy. It's 2 coins, hands down. First, My 1851 Large Cent. Why this one? Simple. I know, for fact, it was passed from my great-grandfather to my grandfather to my father to me. Why was it kept and passed down? Who knows. But it was, so I won't get rid of it until I pass it down. Second, Johann III (1511-1521) Jülich-Berg, Schilling, 1512 OBV: St. Hubertus over arms IOHS·DVX·IVLIC·Z·MON' REV: floral cross with 4 Arms +MONETA·NOVA·RENEN·1512 My 13th-great-grandfather was born circa 1515 in Kaldenkirchen, Jülich-Berg. Maybe he held it at one time? I know, slim chance, but I still like to imagine it. At any rate, it's a coin from the place from which my ancestors came. It, too, will be passed down one day.
It took me a long time to decide..... Well, hope you will not hold this against me....its a Baroque era coin. Poland/ Danzig AV 2 Dukaten ND Danzig Mint John III Sobieski 1674-96 Beautifull piece of 17th Century Mintmasters.
Like most everyone I can't choose just one & like Stevex6 my fovorites change about everyday (I change my underwear every day though). If I have to choose only one. It would have to be one of my least expensive one. But its the only one I have in a presentation box. Did I mention choosing only one is next to impossible? I love 99% of all my coins, why else would I buy them? Ok, its a Postumus with a Pax on the reverse. Sorry I've been busting my rear end all day so you'll get an already been posted pic. My favorite may change tomarrow though, I've yet to score my dream coin. Postumus, Billon 20mm, 2.8g, 12h Colonia Agrippina, 268AD Obv: POSTVMVS PF AVG draped bust of Postumus, right Rev: PAX AVG, Pax standing front, head left, holding olive branch in right & scepter in left hand. Wow fellas, those are amazingly sweet coins ... Hmmm, today ... hey, today is today, eh? Awesome, I get to pick a new pair of undies!! (yeah!!) ... man, I just love this coin (it's not high-end, but it's all that, eh?) I love you coiners (cheers)
Green thats nice. I forgot you're the commemorative guy. I'm looking for a 1925. I was trying to keep in line with the OP. Originally had year wrong my bad.
Currently (there are a few gold coins that I have ordered and which should arrive in the near future that are serious candidates for the top spot) it is this Afghani Gold Mohur of Ahmad Shah Durrani from 1763:
I know I'm answering a nearly ten year old post but on the off chance that OP is still around I believe that AE4 is not a Julius Nepos but instead a Zenonis. Maybe just as well that this person doesn't find out since it'll likely break his/her heart. Not that one should scoff at scoring a Zenonis! Not saying it's beyond the pale but I've yet to see a single, fully convincing AE4 of Julius Nepos. Or, for that matter, any post-Valentinian III western emperor except for Ricimer monograms (which really belongs in its own, non-imperial class anyway) Rasiel
