Okay, so I listed my first ever eBay listing to sell coins. I put that shipping was free and it would be Priority Shipping. Doing some deeper research, I realized that most people ship lower cost coins First Class for about $5.00 less. It seems I can no longer edit the item and change the shipping method to First Class. Am I wrong if I send the purchased items First Class instead of Priority since it is free anyway? If so, would contacting the buyer and asking permission be an acceptable way out of it? The items are worth less than $60 in total if that helps you narrow it down. I don't want to share the link because it would be advertising. Please let me know what you think.
If they are auction listings, and you already have bids, you probably need to ship Priority to uphold your ends of the contract. If they are fixed price listings, you can revise them, or end them and relist them differently.
It is fixed price. I tried editing, but it is strange that it won't let me. I'm in the middle of negotiations with someone and if it falls through, maybe I will relist. Thanks for the input.
If you're negotiating, simply negotiate the shipping method as well. If it ends up a no go, simply relist.
OR - cancel your original listing and relist it with 1st class shipping which is 2.59$ in an mailing envelope and postage and label bought from USPS on line. Or if the difference in shipping/mailing is only a few cent's dont bother.

Yes, if you have outstanding bids/offers on a listing it will not allow you to edit the listing. I think @ToughCOINS is right on this one - communicate with your buyer. Ask if they would prefer you send the items via USPS First Class (and mention cheaper shipping costs) or if they would still desire the Priority Mail. If they choose USPS First Class, great. You can ship any way you want and it's documented that the seller requested the change from the original terms of sale. If they choose Priority Mail, then just keep that in mind with your negotiated price. My gut feeling @Markus1959 is that ending the auction and restarting it is a last-resort option. The best way FIRST is to communicate with your buyer. If that fails (they are non-responsive or a nutjob) - THEN you start considering other more drastic measures.
You should chalk it up as a learning experience. Free priority shipping sounds like you really care that buyer gets the package.And that maybe why they bid on it. Renegotiating to the cheapest shipping available, is not honoring Your own words of the contract you came up with.In my book that's a deal breaker. If you have no bids,you should stop the auction and relist.
What if I get a lower offer than my sell price and part of the negotiation is that I ship it First Class?
To end a listing early and cancel all bids or sell to the high bidder: Go to My eBay > Selling and find the item. From the More actions drop-down menu, select End My Listing Early. If there are bids on your item, choose how you want to end your listing. If there are 12 or more hours before the end of the listing, select Cancel bids and end listing early or Sell item to high bidder. If there are fewer than 12 hours before the end of the listing, your only option is Sell item to high bidder. Note: If your item has no bids, you can skip this step Select the reason you're ending your listing early and click End My Listing.
If I were the buyer negotiating a BIN listing I would prefer first class versus priority if it got me a better deal on the coin. I'd probably even suggest it first if it was listed specifically as priority.
Good news, the buyer accepted my request for First Class Shipping and we both saved money. Thank you for your input everyone.
