Hi Everyone, while coin roll hunting, actually going through my banks, I found a 1982D small date penny weighing in at 3.13g. It it worth having it graded?
It doesn't really matter what it is. It has been harshly cleaned making it worth nothing more than one cent. IMO
The 2 in 1982 is the tell for me. The diagonal of the two is straight on a large and curved on a small. @Inspector43 wouldnt a copper small date d be worth slabbing? Even in details that’s a major coin…
Probably, but I didn't consider that since it appeared to be a large date. And, since I have never had a coin slabbed, I would mot be one to ask.
If it were a copper small date d it would be a major error and worth slabbing, but in this case it's just a spender!
Definitely a Large Date In my honest opinion.. a 3rd example of a Copper 1982 Small Date Denver Mint Cent will never be found.. give it up
Thank you for all your replies, very helpful and informative. However I do have one more question for you knowledgeable people. What would or could possibly, cause melting effects in coins like this one?
Heat causes melting but that coin looks zinc and zinc is light and it’s easily scraped or cut. Even a hit from another coin can cause a gouge like that.
What year is the coin with the divot? The edges remind me a lot of a plating blister that’s popped and the zinc below is rotting. That would be on a post ‘82. Pre 82 and it would most likely be a hit.
