I was reading on Coin News that the CACC was meeting Monday to discuss the forth coming designs for the 2026 Semiquincentennial cent, nickel and dime. So I thought I'd share the 1976 S silver set I put together with the reverse artist's signatures. These are hand signed (not copies) in a limited number done by each at, I believe, at the FUN show. Not certain of the number, I heard 1000 of each, nor the year in which the signings occured. Any one know? None the less, I think these are a unique and fitting set.

Nice set. Coin forums are one of the few places where I can get away with saying that.

Are there any hints so far as to what denominations and what the designs will be for 2026?

Ironically, they are going to do a series on the Booby:

They are large tropical seabirds. Closely related to Gannets, there are several species of Boobies including the Blue-Footed, Red-Footed, Masked, Nazca, Brown, & Peruvian, so the Mint has plenty of opportunities to entertain us.:singing:o_O

I'm generally not impressed with the "signed" specimens, but those are exceptional & I wouldn't mind having them myself. Nicely done!

I would've sworn that this time they were including dimes, and maybe cents and nickels as well, but this bill makes it look like it'll just be quarters, halves, and dollars. And after 2026, we go to youth sports for the reverse on quarters, and sports for the disabled (i.e. Paralympics) for half dollars (yep, multiple new reverse designs for "circulating" half dollars).

My understanding is that the half dollars will only have one design per year featuring "sports for the disabled" from 2027-2030. Then in 2031 we'll get a new obverse (still featuring JFK) and a new reverse.

Some people might be rolling their eyes at "youth sports" as a subject, I admit I'm one of them, but hey at least they're trying something different. Not counting the bicentennial they haven't really done anything interesting with the JFK halves so at least they're making some kind of effort.

As for the quarters I don't know when if ever they're just going to have a semi-permanent reverse again (I'd love it if they just went with the Crossing the Delaware one they did in 2021; this was actually due to be a continuing design until the American women bill passed) but if no legislation gets passed before then they're due to do so in 2031. I like them being creative, but "youth sports" being the best idea they could come up with, makes me think they're running out of ideas.

As for the pennies, nickels, and dimes in 2026 I think they're just going to get a new date to mark the 250th anniversary but not get new reverses. Quarters will get 5 different designs, at least one featuring "a woman or women that contributed to independence" (Betsy Ross has my vote) and the half dollar and Native American dollar will get designs having something to do with independence.

My OCD had me considering Uncirculated sets just to keep the quarter collection going but I think I've just lost interest.

Back to the OP, those are very nice items and I think at least one of the designers is no longer with us. Wouldn't mind tracking down a set myself.

Running out of ideas isn't ever going to be the problem. They keep cropping up no matter how many times you spray for them.

Designs being considered are on the mint website, https://www.usmint.gov/news/ccac-meetings.

None of them appeal to me. Many seem forced or like other designs we have already seen. I wish they would just do a classic looking liberty.

As a momentary, admitted hi jack of the thread…. @psuman08 ’s post kinda made me wonder, how many members here were alive the last time we had liberty on any of our circulating coinage? Would have been what, 1947 off the top of my head? I know there’s some of you out there….

Also not a huge fan of the designs which is somewhat weird for me. I’m usually ok with the modern designs. There were a couple dime obverses that I kinda liked, 1,4, and 2 in that order…. But nothing else was all that great. Literally time to go back to the drawing board…

They need ideas? Always thought these were nice; maybe some sets of coins based on the same/similar idea.... [IMG]
