Bank Wrapped Rolls... with wrong count inside.

I've occasionally found Loomis Half Dollar rolls that have been short a coin or two. Once I had a box with several short rolls, one of which was missing $1.50, and the box was $4.50 short. I'm happy to report that it works both ways sometimes, today I found this roll with $11.00 in it. Anybody else ever find BWR's with a wrong count?

Not really. But to tell you the truth, I don't even count them. Maybe I should!

The worst I had was a nickel box that was missing two rolls. I told the bank tellers about it later, but wouldn't have returned it anyway, it produced an 1889 Liberty nickel and several Buffalos. Small price to pay for goodies found otherwise.

I've never found a box missing an entire roll, but I have been shorted a coin or two. The most recent case was a bank-wrapped roll of quarters with a nickel in place of a quarter. When I mentioned it to the (same) teller the next day, she looked at me with a blank stare. When I completed my deposit, I asked for the 20c. She looked at me as if to say, "Geez, what's the big deal?"

It doesn't matter! I would have mentioned it. Suppose the bank short-changed half of their clientele every week?

It's not so much the bank that is short-changing their customers when this happens with these kinds of rolls but rather, the coin rolling contractor they deal with. Perhaps that's where complaints would be more fruitfully directed. In all honesty, I would have given you a blank stare as well over 20 cents.

In my years of experience in searching through rolls, I've found the shortages tend to balance out well with the surpluses. It's common to find cent rolls with dimes mixed in and more often than not I tend to find rolls that are more overfilled than short.

It is not the customer's place to complain to the contractor. It is the bank's responsibility to ensure that they get the services required. Therefore, it should be the customer's responsibility to make the bank aware of such shortages.

Suppose that one branch has 5,000 customers, and the bank short-changes half of those customers 20c every week. That is $26,000 per year. Let's further suppose that the bank is just one of 1,000 branches. That is $26,000,000 per year.

If you gave me a blank stare and didn't correct the error, I'd be complaining to your manager.

I have usually found that CWR have had shortages, but then it evens out with dimes in cent rolls, once I found a '43 steelie in a dime roll also.

In my experience, dimes are the most notorious for being miscounted. I once got a MWR which was short 7 dimes. I've also received several rolls with 51 coins. It hasn't happened to me much in any other denomination.

LOL... I've been wondering if that would happen to me someday. Just thought about it a couple of days ago when I found a beat up dime in a cent roll.

Because I do a high volume of ordered half dollar boxes (4-5 / week), I don’t complain if I get a box with a coin or two missing. The worst was a whole roll missing. I figure it happens so rarely and if I complain, the bank may quit ordering boxes altogether which would pretty much end my CRH for halves as CWRs are almost impossible to find.

Of course CR hunters run into this. I've been short and over. Also had Dimes in Cent rolls and even foreign money. It happens.

Yes to finding foreign coins. Opened a Loomis box of halves yesterday and checked for enders. Found this 2013 Panama Half Balboa, a circulating commemorative celebrating the 500th anniversary of Balboa’s discovery of the Pacific Ocean. It’s cool and going in my foreign collection as I did not have one.

How could you not know that the box was missing something. It had to feel lighter and all that movement would have triggered something that said to you that this wasn't right.

I just got a box of Penny's & a box of nickles, and was late to go pick up my sister, so I just took them and left.
Also this is my 5th time to crh , it was gonna be hard for me to notice the difference.

ahhh, well you live and learn. I find it very hard to believe that a box would be that short. It's almost like Quality Control was non existent. Now you know. You can feel some movement in some boxes but not a lot. Your box would have been like a tin can with rocks in it! Either way, don't let it discourage you. It's a fun thing to do and LOTS to learn on the way!

I don't think it is the bank who is short changing and making the $26k. It is the contractor. The bank is swapping money for money and breaking even. I agree they should be made aware of the problem.
