The above coin was sold for 50000 USD (that is including the "buyer's premium") 11 years ago.

A Billion Euros does not go very far today/ I could spend that in one year on sixbid easy! Second thought/ less then one year:(

And how much would you spend if German coins were taken out of the equation?

    The same:(
A billion euros is not that much today with inflation. Had you taken a million US Dollars to 1954 Farouk Sale/ it would have been amazing/ coins that cost 1M in 2024 were under a thousand in 54. To have a complete Roman Aurei coll. in MS would be 5 B.

I have no such ambition:D, just buying an Aureus of Marcus Aurelius in good condition would be enough for me. :)

I am full of "p... and vinegar" esp. at work and play. No matter/ I always try to do the best of my ability. When I collected butterflies I was always trying to get a complete coll. in perfect quality/ with coins I am restrained due to lack of funds:) But I am very happy to have 1200+ gold coins/ and 120 AR Roman Denarii.
The Mughal AV 1000 Mohur is worlds most $$$$ coin/ but I would prefer the AV 100 Dukaten 1683 from Michal Apafi.
I was shocked to see in Friedberg that 17 exs exist in collections of the 1621 AV 100 Dukaten Polish King Sigismundus III minted in Chocim.!

Cheech9712 Every thing is a guess

I would buy a 1972 doubled die and a 1916 quarter and maybe a mercury dime. Also john’s collection. Then I’d call @Kentucky

See my point? Now if I had a Billion smackeroos I would have bought that coin for 160K UK Pds as unsold lot. Of course being poor I cannot do that:(

I intend to do just that/ some coins I won in auctions back in 1990s are now 50K+ coins due to coin market trends/ inflation.:)

That is normal price difference between 1972 and 2023. Many coins have gone up way more then that. They complain about cost of living going crazy/ coins have been doing this for past 100 years.

I wonder if coin collectors back then realized how lucky they were in regards to prices?

Anyway, I think I have found a coin you want: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2565779847...=0&osub=-1~1&crd=20240721051203&segname=11011

Probably back then, the demand was less/ so prices were not crazy. Today too many collectors/ demand outweighs supply. Also in 2124 they will look back at how cheap coins were in 2024! World coin prices are still very inexpensive compared to US prices.
