Indian Head Pennies. I currently have 3 complete sets. Though these sets are not in the final grade I want, they will become the set one day. Including Patterns. The set I will be happy with is the one that is BU with Patterns.

    BU & With patterns!!!!

    Sheesh, that is some investment!

    I just saw an 1856 PR-62 (I believe it was a 62) last weekend.
    Man, what a coin.
But, it is also a mortgage on a house.

Question for everyone, how do you store or display your sets? I've started collecting Lincoln cents and Buffalo/Jefferson nickels in the best condition I can find. Is it wise to put them in coin folders, or do you use another method? Thanks a lot.

    tc:
I really like either the Whitman or Dansco folder, of course, not for the slabs.
    And, no, I don't display.
(Don't want to give anyone any ideas.)

You know, I have always been one for the Whitman or the Dansco Albums, but my opinion is starting to change for this simple reason: album toning. I have two particular sets; a Lincoln Memorial Set and a Silver Eagle Unc Set in Dansco albums and as I have taken them out to gaze upon them recently I have seen some really ugly toning on the SAE set ( one IMHO that has completely lost its value for the toned coins, at least) and some of the Lincolns are toning as well (this set includes the proofs) and I am not sure I care for it. All of the coins were very nice original color when I placed them in the albums.

I am NOT advocating any other type of storage as much as I am advocating forethought before placing nice coins into a cardboard album.

Does Dansco still make folders? All I can find are their albums.

    Large Cents
    7070 Type Set
    Franklin Halfs
    Ike Dollars
    1950 to 71 Cameo Proofs
About a dozen different sets of Jefferson Nickels

And none are even close to complete and probably never will be.

Well, I completed that hand-picked 1961 proof set ! Last piece was a PR68 Cameo Jefferson.

Not a lot of cameo nickels. I shopped quite a few.

Anyone completed any sets lately ?

Trying to make a complete 32-64 circulated washington quarter collection.

I've got most of the 30's and 40's, save the 32-d and 32-s which i will get last and now need to pick up some of the common 50's and 60's coins i need

    Mike -

Let me suggest that you think about another reason as well.

What is the first rule a coin collector learns about handling coins ? To never touch the surface of the coin.

Now - exactly how do you get the coins into the albums in the first place ?

This is a first set (other than a US type set) that I've ever actually tried to complete. I'm working on a AU or unc. Lincoln cent folder for 1959-present from circulating coinage, especially bank rolls.

Working on BU peace dollar set. Still need the big one the 1934 S and a 1927 S. Than I'll start to upgrade. Also working on a lincoln Penny set that I started as a kid and also a Dansco 7070 type set, way fun, learning a lot. Thinking about Washington Quarters.

I've never worked on Peace as a set, but I did need a 1928 issue for a set in honor of my mother's birth year. BTW today is her birthday ! She would have 79 today !

So 34-S and 27-S can be tough, but so can the 28-P and 28-S.
