Usually I’m really solid identifying whether something is an incomplete planchet or post mint altered. For some reason this one is tough for me. The weakness in the devices around the clip screams legit. I don’t have as much experience with ragged or straight clips so I’m unsure. Also no blakesly which I think isnt uncommon on a slightly larger clip such as this. Thoughts? thanks.
I do see Blakesley, though -- the dentils are much less distinct opposite the clip. I think it's legit, but let's wait for the error specialists...
Looks like an incomplete planchet to me. I don't call it clipped because it never was clipped. It most likely was cut out of the stock sheet to close to a straight edge.
A very nice incomplete planchet on your Indian Head Cent. The coin making process was much different then than it is today.
Looks like an edge punched blank (could not tell you right or left side though). Don't think it was end of roll because those usually are tampered or ragged.
Appreciate the feedback all. I thought it was, but was less than 100% so wanted some feedback before labeling and filing. Thanks for taking the time.
