Picked this up at the Grapevine Show today, labeled as an "1884 O/O". Turns out, there are half a dozen o over o varieties that year, and I'm struggling with this one. There's a small die crack from the tress of Liberty's hair toward her eye, and the arrows on the reverse seem to be mildly doubled. I'm not seeing another O inside the mint mark, but I think I do see doubling above/left of the 1 and on the bottom right loop of the first 8, which points towards VAM-11. Are you seeing anything I'm missing?
I got it for the book price of an XF 1884-O, as the dealer didn't "weigh varieties". I'm not too sad about that. Do you see the VAM-11, or am I talking myself into details that aren't there?
Thanks. My new Samsung S-23 Ultra at 9x zoom, with and without a 30x loupe to help focus on specifics.
The date placement doesn't match vam11. Date placement and o/o looks like a VAM30. I don't see a clashed N or S which would be 30A
I'm not so sure about that. The 1 on mine doesnt appear to be tripled, and the VAM-30 lacks doubling on the lower right of the first 8. Also, don't all the VAM-30's have that distinctive notch on Liberty's neck?
